Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Indonesia

its logoThe ITS is the largest scientific and technological Institute in eastern Indonesia with over 17,000 students enrolled in postgraduate, undergraduate as well as vocational programmes. With an academic staff of around 1,000 scientists ITS focuses its education and research activities on three main strategic fields, namely (a) energy, covering alternative energy, renewable energy and energy efficiency, (b) maritime technology including marine technology, marine science, marine biology and fisheries, and (c) environment focusing on housing and public settlement as well as disaster management.

In order to foster national economic development and to improve competitiveness of Indonesian scientists and graduates, the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia set up a long term strategy in higher-education, known as HELTS 2003-2010, in which ITS plays an important part. ITS increasingly collaborates in development and education orientated projects with international universities. ITS and UO already established a collaboration network in 2008 in order to foster joint research projects and to exchange academic staff as well as students in the field of renewable energies.

The integration of ITS in the joint project “Developing Sustainability, Energy, Environment, and Societal Change” emphasises its reputation as the resource university in science and technology for Eastern Indonesia.
